If you have overdue late accounts the best thing to do is get current and stay current. Payment history accounts for about 30% of the score so getting current will help you the most. However, it still won%26#039;t jump overnight. Depending a lot of other factors and how far down you are in the 500%26#039;s and how high in the 600%26#039;s you want to go it could take 6 months or it could take 2 years. But if you don%26#039;t get current you can pretty much guarantee you will be in the 500%26#039;s until you do.

If something was charged off that means the creditor sold it to a 3rd party(Collection Agency). You need to find out where the debt is now and make arangements on how to pay it off. You might be able to negociate for them to remove the negative information as you pay it. This does not work all the time but sometimes they will do this. If they will not then any negative information will remain on your report for 7 years, but as time goes on it has less and less effect on your score.

There isn%26#039;t necessarily a certain point value to paying off an overdue account or charged off accounts. It will definetely work in your favor. It%26#039;s all a big equation.

35% of a credit score is based on your payment history. They look to see how many accounts are in a current standing, how many are past due, how long have they been past due, how long has it been since you%26#039;ve had a past due payment, etc.

Typically negative information such as a charge off will stay on your credit report for 7 years. It is better to still pay it tho! A creditor can seek to garnish you if it is not paid.

My biggest concern is what is the driving force to achieve 600? Are you planning to finance something? I%26#039;d be more concerned you%26#039;ve evaluated how what ever you want to finance fits into your budget, and the lenders who prey on those with a low credit score.
